Love Filled Lies

Three tender words
Any girl would kill to hear,
But at what cost?

From day one
You had me.
I promised to be yours,
You promised you were mine.

Every gentle phrase
Left me in utter amazement.
Your very presence
Had me going crazy.

We’d stay up every night,
All night,
Talking of everything
And anything.

When I was upset,
You would do anything
That was in your power,
Just to make me smile.

I was so foolish
To even begin to think
That just maybe
This was real.

How stupid I was,
To actually believe
“Happily ever after”
Was more than just a myth.

Our laughs turned to shouting.
Our jokes turned to fights.
Our happiness turned to boredom.
And lastly, our love turned to hate.

You said hating me
Was the impossible.
I guess you tacked on those
Two extra letters only to ease my pain.

You promised you’d never leave me,
Yet here I am all alone
Without you by my side
To sooth my sorrows.

You used to be the one
Who washed the tears away
This time around,
You’re the one causing them.
